BSF kills Bangladeshi near Maheshpur border

UNB, Jhenaidah

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Bangladeshi man inside their territory near Palianpur village of Maheshpur upazila on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahim, 50, son of Abul Quasem of Baulia village in Sejia Union.

Lt Col Quamrul Ahsan, commanding officer of 58 Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion, said BSF disclosed the matter to them at a flag-meeting around 4pm.

Abdur Rahim along with several others entered India for bringing cattle. BSF shot him dead near pillar number 60 when he was returning around 4am, he said.

3 of a family electrocuted

UNB, Barguna

A mother and her son were among three people electrocuted at Khastabak village of Patharghata upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Hamida Begum, 35, her son Md Russel, 14, and brother-in-law Md Delwar Hossain, 65.Local ward council member Md Badal Pahlan said a live wire fell on Delwar when he was cutting a betel nut tree beside an electricity line. Russel and his mother died when they tried to save Delwar. Md Abul Bashar, Palli Bidyut’s line technician, said they went to cut a betel nut tree beside a 240V coverless electric line without informing them.

Woman killed over land dispute

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Manikganj

A woman was killed over land dispute at North Rouha village in Saturia upazila of Manikganj on Sunday night. Police detained two suspects in connection with the murder.

The deceased was identified as Josna Begum, 60, wife of late Abdul Latif of Uttar Rouha village in Saturia upazila in the district.

Officer-in-charge of Saturia Police Station Motiar Rahman confirmed the incident saying that the brothers-in-law of Josna Begum donated land to construct a new mosque in the northern part of Rauha village in the upazila. Josna Begum's family was also being pressurized to donate land there. The incident took place in the evening after a clash erupted between them leaving Josna Begum critically injured. Locals rushed her to the upazila health complex where doctors declared her dead.
