Khulna take slim lead over Rangpur

Khulna Division’s batsmen failed to carry on the momentum on day 2 what their bowlers provided them the previous day against Rangpur Division in the Tier-1 fixture of the National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.  

Despite Mahedi Hasan’s spellbinding 119, the Tier-1 leader managed to score 233 on the board, nine runs more than Rangpur’s first innings total of 224.

Dhaka Metro is in the saddle as Chattogram Division is struggling against Metro bowlers and scored 96 for three after being all-out for 91 in first innings at the backyard of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Elsewhere at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka Division replied well against Rajshahi Division as the former mustered 284 for four, a 54-run lead against the latter in other top-tier match.  

Barishal Division were trailed by 148 runs against Sylhet Division in Tier-2 tie at the academy ground of the SKICS in the city of the largest sea beach.  

Rangpur vs Khulna  

Mahedi Hasan clouted century that saved them from the blushes of being all-out below hundred against Rangpur Division. They mislaid eight wickets for only 80 in the face of combined attack especially Robiul Haque, who picked four wickets among above mentioned wickets including Imrul Kayes and Tushar Imran though he added another wicket to his wicket-tally to complete his five-for. He gave away 41 runs to snare his stake.

From the precarious 80 for eight, Mahedi Hasan hit a useful 133 with Rubel Hossain for the ninth-wicket stand that crossed the 200-run mark. Mahedi whacked a patient 150-ball 119 before being caught b Sajedul Islam off Mukidul Islam. His classy innings laced with 15 fours and one six.

Rubel Hossain, who dropped from the national team’s ongoing India tour due to his shoddy performance, provided ample support to Mahedi to bring them back from the tricky situation was stranded at 36 not out.

In reply, Rangpur Division finished the day at 67 for four, took a 58-run lead. Mahedi Maruf fell for 23 and Suhrawardi Shuvo got out for 24. Naeem Islam was batting on 11.

Chattogram vs Metro

Resuming the second day at 357 for 4, Dhaka Division added 46 to their overnight total. They lost six wickets to make a score of 46 runs. Shadman Islam, who were on 162, bowled to add 16 runs and missed his credible double century.

Finally he smacked 23 fours and two sixes in his patient 276-ball 178 before being bowled by Irfan Hossain, who grabbed a brace like Nayeem Hasan and Minhajul Abedin Afridi. Hasan Mahmud claimed three wickets for the local side.

In reply, Chattogram Division fell into a combined attack of Metro bowlers especially Sharifullah and Taskin Ahmed and folded for a paltry 91. The duo shared seven wickets between them. Sharifullah conceded 30 runs to bag his four wickets, while Taskin gave away 34 runs to pick up three wickets.

Being fallen into devastating position, the local side fought against visiting bowlers and finished the day at 96 for three. Pinaki Ghosh remained unbeaten on 55 with Tasamul Haque making 14.

Rajshahi vs Dhaka

Though the start of the day was not enough for Dhaka Division as they lost two wickets in the space of 45 but they finished the day at strong position. Together with Shuvagata Hom, Taibur Rahman brought them back from the sprawling situation. The duo smoked 180 for the unbeaten fifth-wicket stand that provided them a 54-run lead. Both batsmen were very near to hundred. Taibur was unbeaten on 93 with Shuvagata scoring 92 not out.    

Taibur hammered eight fours and a six, while Shuvagata thrashed seven fours and a six in their respective innings.

Sylhet vs Barishal

Courtesy of half-centuries by Shahnaj Ahmed (73) and Zakir Hasan (53), Sylhet Division managed to put on 322 on the board after they resumed the day at

82-1. Shahnaj Ahmed successfully converted his overnight score of 32 to fifty-plus score. His patient 182-ball 73 studded with eight boundaries. Zakir Hasan also followed his to strike half-century. He bashed 53 off 90 , clobbering half-a-dozen fours.

Monir Hossain was the most successful among bowlers, claiming three wickets for Barishal.
