Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in his verified facebook page in the wee hour of Saturday (yesterday) urged his fans at home and abroad to keep calm and show humble patience. Shakib’s countless fans around the world launched their tirade of abuse on social media and staged demonstration and protests surrounding at the Home of cricket targeting ICC, BCB and its president after ICC announced a two-year sanction with the second year categorically suspended for not informing to its ACU of three times corrupt approaches made by bookmaker.

Day by day, their tirades were generated so many speculations that may be a cause of concern for both Shakib himself and BCB as well. The fame and reputation of the country’s cricket will be tarnished. And so, Shakib posted a message written in both Bangla and English words asking his fans to stop those things immediately.

“To all my fans and well wishers, let me start by saying that I have been touched and felt blessed by your unconditional support and affection during what has been a very difficult time for me and my family. In the last few days I have realised more than ever what it means to represent your country,” said Shakib Al Hasan, who is Bangladesh regular captain in Test and T20.

“On that note, I am requesting calm and patience from all my supporters who may have felt aggrieved at the sanction imposed on me,” Shakib told uploading the post in his facebook page. The talismanic all-rounder himself accepted the charges that branded by the world cricket apex body for not informing of bookmaker’s approaches with sinister intensions in between January and April in 2018.

Being self-conscience, Shakib thought that fans’ such outburst for him due to his suspension that could be misguided and generated other complications.

“I wish to make it very clear that the entire investigation by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit was confidential and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) only came to know about it from me just a few days before the announcement of the sanction. From that point onwards, the BCB has been most supportive and understanding of my situation and I am grateful for that,” he wrote.

“I can understand why many people are offering to help and I really appreciate that. However, there is a process in place and I have accepted my ban because I felt that was the right thing to do,” he added.

“My entire focus now is on returning to the cricket field and playing for Bangladesh again in 2020. Until then keep me in your prayers and heart,” concluded his post with thanks.

Subject to his obligation, the second year of the two-year suspension will be suspended if he does not commit further offence under the ICC’s ACU code of conduct and take part in the ICC approved education and rehabilitation programmes.
