NCL 4th round from today

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

The 21st edition of the National Cricket League (NCL), the country’s oldest first class cricket competition, sponsored by Walton Group, will resume after a three-day break with the fourth-round fixtures at four different grounds across the country today. All the matches of the Tier-1 and 2 will simultaneously begin at the same time of 9:00am.

Tier-1 leaders Khulna Division will lock horns with Rangpur Division at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogura, while Rajshahi Division will take on Dhaka Division at their own yard of Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium (SKS) in Rajshahi in another top-tier encounter.

Tier-2 leaders Chattogram Division will compete against Dhaka Metro at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) at the Sagorika area of Chattogram, whilst Barishal Division will face off Sylhet Division at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar in other Tier-2 outing.

After the conclusion of the third round games of the NCL, Khulna led the chart with 17.25 points. They did not concede any match loss but won a match out of three matches. They thumped Rajshahi by seven wickets in the second round. Rajshahi followed them with 13.11 points. They won and lost one match each out of the same outings.

On the other hand, Dhaka chalked up 10.2 points playing three matches but they are yet to triumph or lose any match. Rangpur placed at bottom with 6.72 points. Even though they lost a match, they are yet to win any match.

In Tier-2, Chattogram led the points-table with 16.42 points. They won a match but conceded no match loss in their three ties. Barishal closely followed them with 14.62 points. They won a match routing Sylhet by an innings and 13 runs in the league opener in their three-match-road string.

However, Sylhet pushed Metro rock bottom despite losing two matches out of the three matches as they bagged 12.69 points in their pouch but they triumphed a match thrashing Dhaka Metro by eight wickets in the second round fixture.

But Metro are languishing at bottom, claimed the lowest 6.99 points without scripting any match win rather they lost a match in their three fixtures.

In addition, the current edition of the NCL is being held in competitive fashion rather than the previous other times. There was a good reason behind it as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had set a criterion of fitness, maximum 11 in beep test for the players.

This time the standard ball is being used in the league for what players had a pre-tournament reservation.

Even, the players and match officials are enjoying the increased match fee and other facilities from the board what were their drawn-out demands.
