International educational campaign held

Staff reporter, Dhaka

The international educational campaign titled ‘Geographical Dictation’ was held for the first time at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Dhaka on Saturday, said a press release. Russian compatriots, schoolchildren, students studying the Russian language, Bangladeshi graduates of Soviet universities and other people wishing to test their knowledge of Russian geography took part in the campaign.

Russian Geographical Society has organised the event to popularize geographical knowledge and increase the other interest in Russia from the international community. Head of the Cultural Center Maxim Dobrokhotov in a welcoming speech explained that the geographical dictation has been held in Russia since 2015 at the initiative of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and his main goal is to popularize geographical knowledge and increase interest in geography, ecology and culture of Russia.

He noted that since 2017 the action has become international, the number of participants of which is constantly growing from 72 thousand to 3,76, 000 last year. This year, the dictation consisted of two parts, each of which included 10 and 30 questions respectively, designed for both knowledge and logic and quick wit. Intellectual competition has become more like a quiz than an exam test. In total, participants were assigned 45 minutes to complete the tasks.

The dictation took place in Bulgaria, Germany, France, Italy, the USA, Costa Rica, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, Namibia, Nepal and many other countries. In 2019, the number of countries will be more, and Bangladesh has become one of them.
