A section of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) continued their strike yesterday for the sixth consecutive day demanding the removal of vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam over graft allegation. The protestors under the platform 'Jahangirnagar Against Corruption' conducted all out strike on the campus and blocked both of new and old administrative buildings and faculties from dawn to dusk.  Due to the strike, administrative activities were almost halted. However, after 9am, the protesters kept the accounts office of the new administrative building free from strike for two hours to facilitate the payment of salaries to teachers, officers and employees.

Moreover, protesters brought out a procession with sarcastic quotes and painted banners from ‘Vice-Chancellor Removal Mancha’ in front of old administrative building. After parading different streets on the campus, the procession ended at old administrative building.

The protesters raised allegations of corruption, irregularities and arbitrariness against Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam throughout the canvas. Meanwhile, VC-backed teachers formed a human chain protesting attack on associate proctor Mahibur Rauf Shaibal of Drama and Dramatics department.  Under the banner of ‘Bangabandhu Shikkhak Parishad’, they formed the human chain on the university's central Shaheed Minar premises at 11.30am.

At the programme, speakers claimed that on Wednesday morning, a group of protesters attacked associate proctor Mohibur Rauf Shaibal at a stage of argument over entering the main gate of the old arts building of the university. He was seriously injured by their attack and was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital for better treatment. They demanded immediate punishment of attackers.
