The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday halted a High Court (HC) order that directed Green Line Paribahan to give the remainder of the compensation of Tk. 40 lakh to a driver, Russel Sarkar, in instalments as per its earlier directive.
In accordance with the HC order, Green Line Paribahan had earlier given Tk. 10 lakh in two instalments through its lawyer, advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque, and sought a reduction in
the remaining amount of
Tk. 40 lakh.
The HC, however, in July had not accepted their prayer. The bus company then moved the SC seeking a stay on the HC order directing it to pay Tk. 40 lakh to Russel Sarkar, who lost his left leg from below the knee after he was knocked down by a Green Line bus near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the capital on April 28 last year.
