Lightning strike kills 2 in Noakhali

UNB, Noakhali

Two men were killed after being struck by lightning at Lalchar in Hatia upazila yestwerday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Quamruzzaman, 42, son of Kamal Uddin; and Abul Kalam, 50, son of Joynal Abedin of the upazila. Zia Ali Mobarak, Chairman of Burirchar Union Parishad, said Qamruzzaman and Kalam died on the spot when lightning struck them. They were going to the pastureland with cattle around 9am.

Body of a young boy recovered

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Manikganj

Police have recovered the flouting unidentified dead body of a young man, aged around 25, from Kaliganga riverbank at Nalora village in Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

Md Rakibuzzaman, Officer in Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station said, we received information from locals that a body was floating in the riverbank at Nalora village near bamboo made bridge in the morning. Later, police rushed to the spot and recovered body at 12.30 pm. The body bore mark on the neck as he was believed to be strangulated to death. Two feet of the victim was also tied with ‘shirt’, the OC added.

The body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged with Sadar Police Station in this connection.

Youth detained with 7 gold bars

UNB, Kushtia

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a young man along with seven gold bars from Katlamari area under Amla Sadarpur union in Mirpur upazila yesterday.

The detainee was identified as Ripon, 30, son of Khorshed Alam hailing from Mirzapur upazila of Tangail district.

On secret information, a BGB team stopped a Meherpur-bound bus of JR Paribahan and detained Ripon, said Md Rafiqul Alam, commanding officer of BGB Kushtia Battalion-47. Later, the gold bars were recovered after searching his body, he said.

Child drowns in Habiganj

BSS, Habiganj

A minor boy drowned in a ditch at Hilalpur village under Bahubal upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Siyam, 7, son of Ekhlas Mia, hailed from the village.

Local people said Siyam drowned this afternoon in the ditch close to his house when he was playing with other boys beside the ditch.

After rescuing, locals brought Siyam to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bahubal Model Thana Md Kamruzzaman confirmed the incident.

1 held for spreading indecent photo

UNB, Jamalpur

Police on Tuesday arrested a college student here for allegedly spreading indecent photo of a young girl on social media in Bakshiganj upazila here.

The arrestee has been identified as Shahriar Islam Shanto, 22, son of Shahidul Islam of Bakshiganj Municipality area and a third year student of Government Ashek Mahmud College, Jamalpur.

Hajrat Ali, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj Police Station, said the arrest came following a case filed by the victim’s father with the police station on Monday.

According to the case statement Shahriar recently circulated indecent photos of the 18 year old college girl through Facebook and Messenger. Later, he was picked up from Bakshiganj Bus Stand around 1pm, he said, adding that they will look into how the photos were captured.
