Bangladesh Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan has joined the team’s ongoing practice session after the conclusion of his vacation at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

Shakib returned home from the United States of America (USA) at 3:00am to join the team’s ongoing practice session, which was arranged for the back-to-back Test and tri-nation series at home yard.

In the aftermath of the ICC Cricket World Cup in the United Kingdom (UK), where he showcased a jaw-dropping performance, Shakib took a long vacation. He went to Saudi Arabia with his mother to perform Hajj and then flew to the USA to meet with his family.

The ace all-rounder didn’t take part in the fielding session but he honed himself by batting at the centre wicket of the SBNCS following his fitness test on his opening day practice session.

He therefore held meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel where BCB director and its Cricket Operations chairman Akram Khan, chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu and its member Habibul Bashar Sumon coupled with newly-appointed head coach Russell Craig Domingo were there, where they talked about the formation of squad and wicket.

Bangladesh will announce their squad for the ensuing one-off Test against Afghanistan before the unofficial practice between Red XI and Green XI as the chief selector informed.

Akram gives positive vibes about captain Shakib Al Hasan following their closed-door meeting.   “The matter of the captain is that he is very tired. He comes to join the practice session after arriving here at 3:00am,” said Akram Khan.

“It’s a big matter that he joined the team’s ongoing practice in the gap of a few hours. The captain is very much positive,” Khan told media at the entrance of the SBNCS.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) embarked on their second phase of practice with fielding and conditioning yesterday keeping the ensuing Test against Afghanistan and its subsequent tri-nation series.

Under the supervision of the fielding coach Ryan Cook, the players launched their fielding practice at the SBNCS in Mirpur. He was aided by newly-appointed head coach Russell Craig Domingo and his compatriot fast-bowling coach Charl Langeveldt.

Bangladesh fielding performance in the England Cricket World Cup and its subsequent bilateral series in Sri Lanka were not up to the mark. And so, the cricketers started their second phase training camp with fielding.

Mehidy Hasan Miraj sustained niggles on his finger during the fielding session. But the injury was not serious one as the BCB trainer and the physician told media afterwards.

Beside Shakib, batsman Soumya Sarkar, all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad and batsman Shadman Islam Anik, among others’ did batting practice by rotation.
