Road crashes kill 6 in 3 dists

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

A total of six persons were killed in different road mishaps across the country yesterday (Friday). In the incidents, two persons were killed in Dhaka, Tangail and Chattogram each. In Dhaka, two persons were killed in two separate road accidents. The incidents were reported from the capital’s Rampura and Jatrabari areas early in the morning, said police. Police have identified the victims as 60-year-old Abdul Quader and 58-year-old Mostak. The bodies have been kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), DMCH police outpost Inspector Md Baccu Mia told The Independent.

Quoting Quader’s family, Rampura sub-inspector (SI) Md Shohel told the media that Quader was on his motorbike when he had an accident near Rampura bridge. He added that police rushed to the spot and took him to DMCH, where he was declared dead around 11.45am.

Meanwhile, Mostak was run over by a mini-truck while crossing the road in front of Matuail Medical Hospital in Jatrabari. He was taken to DMCH and was declared dead around 11.30am. In Tangail, two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway near Mohera area in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila. The victims were identified as Abdur Razzak and Abdul Kader, both hailing from Atgharia upazila of Pabna. They were relatives.

Confirming this to The Independent, Gorai highway police SI Motiar Rahman said, “The three injured are undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital, while the victims’ bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue.” According to Rahman, a Dhaka-bound microbus coming from Pabna and carrying five members of a family crashed into a truck near Mohera area.

“The passengers, and the truck driver, all sustained critical injuries, and after they were admitted to Tangail General Hospital, two of them were pronounced dead by the on-duty doctors,” according to the SI. “The microbus driver, however, sustained minor injuries and left the hospital secretly after receiving primary treatment,” Rahman added. In Chattogram, two persons were killed following a collision between a tractor and a CNG-auto-rickshaw at Kaptai intersection of Chandgaon thana.

The accident happened around 10am. The deceased were Sumon, 22, son of Md. Sharif, of Quaish Boro Pukur Par and Md. Anis, 33, son of Abed Ali of Battery Gali area. Sumon and Anis were declared dead at the emergency department of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital around 11am, Jahirul Haque Bhuiya, outpost in-charge of the hospital, told the media.
