Comilla not in favour of wholesale change in BPL structure

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

omilla Victorians said that they are not in favour of wholesale change of the structure of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

This BPL franchisee demanded the continuation of the rules and the regulations of the erstwhile 2019 model of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) along with sharing of the revenue partially from the grounds and tickets with the BPL franchisees.

Nafisa Kamal, managing director of the holders Comilla Victorians placed the demands yesterday, while they appeared in Mirpur to discuss with the BPL Governing Council regarding the agreement of the new four-season cycle on the third day of the BPL franchisee meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

“Our point is that if the last edition of the BPL is called the most successful of the BPL history then why we will swap that model. Why will not we continue the model? Our board president said that no rules in BPL have changed, honouring his words, we want to say that we seek to restore the continuation of the successful model,” said Nafisa Kamal.

“The cycle has been shifted that’s not meant the rules and regulations will be changed. We want to continue the previous model in the new cycle. Some changes might be changed. I don’t think that there is any need of changing the entire structure of the BPL. As we have a successful model in hand then why we will not follow it,” Nafisa told media while coming out from the meeting.

“We don’t go anything so specific. The model we had in last year if we follow it, all things will then be covered. If the retention is done for four players then local and foreign is covered. Actually we want to restore the previous retention policy,” she added.

“I had signed with Mushfiq(ur Rahim) in the mid-way of the ICC Cricket World Cup-2019. Tamim has gone to Khulna prior to the World Cup. So, why the issue did not put up at that time,” she told in response to a query.

BPL governing body will sit with Sylhet franchisee along with the interested candidates who want to be the new franchisee of Chattogram in the upcoming edition of the Twenty20 blockbuster tournament.
