Land ‘e-Payment Gateway’ to start soon

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, Dhaka

The government is going to introduce "e-Payment Gateway" services for various land-related transactions. It will ensure corruption-free and transparent land services. This was stated by land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, while inaugurating the three-day "e-Mutation Refresher Workshop", organised by the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's office, with the cooperation of a2i, for the Dhaka Divisional Land Management Officers in the city’s Segunbagicha yesterday (Wednesday).

“It is important to note that payment through gateways is an effective and secure platform for making monetary transactions reliable and transparent. It will help to end corruption in the land sector,” the minister said. Officials of departments concerned have to be more prompt in reclaiming government land, he said. A law is being prepared to prosecute illegal possession of government land under the criminal procedure.

“Due to corruption, we have not been able to reach our rightful place. Everybody should work together to build a corruption-free Bangladesh,” Chowdhury said.

He praised officers working to enhance land services on their own and encouraging others to do the same.

Deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners (revenue), upazila nirbahi officers, assistant commissioners (land), Kanungos, surveyors, office assistants and union land assistant officers participated in the workshop.

Officers from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Tangail were also present.

Earlier, three officials from different ranks shared their experiences and thoughts in front of the land minister. The objective of the refresher workshop is to discuss and consult with expert resource persons problems they face while working at the field level, as well as to try and solve problems through mutual interaction amongst participants.

The e-Mutation application is essentially a part of the national land-information and services online platform called "Zami" (www.land.gov.bd).
