The authorities will begin eviction drive against illegal land grabbers to protect rivers in Khulna from September 1.
“Many rivers, canals and water bodies in Khulna region were occupied by land grabbers… Eviction drive will begin to free rivers, canals and water bodies from land grabbers for ensuring normal flow of water,” an official of local administration told a meeting here.
Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain and officials of different organisation concerned, among others, were present at the
meeting.
At the meeting, speakers said many rivers are on the verge of dying as the land grabbers are constructing illegal structures on the banks of rivers as well as filling up canals and water bodies.
It is urgent to knock down illegal structures built on the rivers for safeguarding environment through ensuring normal flow of water, they added.
