Forhad eagerly awaits a chance to play for national team

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
Forhad eagerly awaits a chance
to play for national team

Fast medium all-rounder Forhad Reza on Tuesday said he has eagerly been awaiting for an opportunity of playing for the national team since the last three-four years.

Reza also said that if you don’t give a chance then how you will judge a development of a player and how you will judge he will be fit or not for the international cricket.

His agility and exciting fitness coupled with sheer performance with bat and ball at the blockbuster Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament surprised all, the feat that finally placed him in the closed-door of the national team once again after a long hiatus.

The 30-year-old has showed a glimmer of hopes to stage a comeback to the national fold with his dexterity and all-around performance at domestic cricket circuit regardless of formats of games.

Reza toured to Ireland with the national team for a tri-nation series having scheduled prior to the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup in the United Kingdom (UK) but he did not get chance to play any match in the tournament.

He was named for the conditioning camp of the national team at a time when Bangladesh have a lot of games ahead what they will play at home and abroad within the next two and half-a-months.

The Tigers will play a tri-nation series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe after a one-off Test against neophyte Afghanistan. Therefore, they will travel to India to play a string of games. Of them, they will play a three-match Twenty20 series along with a two-match Test series by which they will start their counting of the World Test Championship, inducted by International Cricket Council (ICC) to add a new meaning to the Test Cricket.

“I have tried to do my own work in right way.  As my work is to do well, I always try to do that and continue to do it whatever level I play. And when I get a chance, I try to capitalise it. And so, I am going on doing this keeping me fit,” said Forhad Reza, who represented Bangladesh so far 34 ODIs and 13 T20Is.

“The selection is not in my hand. What I have in my hand just try to do it in proper way. And when I will get an opportunity, I try to utilise it,” Reza told media after their second day training camp.

Now Forhad is 30. He is continuing his cricket despite being dropped from the national team in 2014. He has been playing his game having kept fit that made stunned all. In the opening day’s bleb test, Forhad chalked up the highest score what was among top four players. He unveiled his fitness mystery before the media.

“I have been working with trainers Tushar (Kanti Roy) and Joy since last four-five years on fitness. For this, my fitness has been lifted in such a way,” he said.

“Most of the players showed a good sign of fitness. I’ll not tell only about me, some of the players had a score of near about 11 (in between 10 and 10.5). I think, everybody does well but it would be better further if we all could do well further,” he also said.

He said that he seeks to get another chance of playing international cricket for which he is raring right now.
