‘Stalin’, a brand-new play produced by Centre for Asian Theatre (CAT), has returned to the stage once again. This time around, two shows of the play have been scheduled to be staged at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. While the first show was staged yesterday at 7pm, the second show of the play will be brought on stage at the same time at the same place.

The play revolves around the life of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin (18 December, 1878–5 March, 1953), a Georgian revolutionary and Soviet politician, who led the Soviet Union from the mid–1920s until 1953 as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1922–1953) and Premier (1941–1953). Initially presiding over a collective leadership as first among equals, by the 1930s he was the country’s de facto dictator. A communist ideologically committed to the Leninist interpretation of Marxism, Stalin formalised these ideas as Marxism–Leninism, while his own policies are known as Stalinism.

Based on a few books on Joseph Stalin, the play is directed by the noted thespian Kamaluddin Nilu while Raihan Akhter translated it to Bangla.

The cast of the play includes Shahadat Hossain, Sabina Sultana, A K Azad Shetu, Raihan Akhter, Md Rafi Sumon, Mejbaul Karim and Shipra Das, among others.

The tickets will be available in front of the hall before the show.
