Sri Lanka HP team crushes Bangladesh emerging XI

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Hosts Bangladesh emerging team led by Nazmul Hossain Shanto suffered a humiliating 186-run defeat against touring Sri Lanka HP team in the 1st unofficial ODI on Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) ground  in Savar yesterday.

With this defeat the hosts trail the 3-match ODI series 1-0.

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka HP team sensed their victory after being posted a huge 304 runs on the board. The visiting side looked pretty good with the bat from early in the innings and started dominating the bowlers by scoring almost eight runs per over till 6th over of the mandatory powerplay.

The hosts, however, back in the match with double strikes when Shafiqul Islam removed both the Lankan openers in his successive overs, but it wasn’t enough for the hosts stopping the run flow after Charith Asalanka (71) and Shammu Ashan (33) added a crucial 85-run for the 3rd wicket to accelerate the scorecard in the middle. Later, Wanidu Hasaranga’s blistering 70 off 46 balls that contained 7 fours and three sixes and Ashen Bandara’s late cameo (29 off 17 deliveries) helped the visitors post 304 after their allocated 50 overs.
