‘Friends’ to hit cinemas on its annivesary

From special experiences to a new Pottery Barn collection and much talk about the show’s rights, the 25th anniversary of the premiere episode of genre-defining TV show ‘Friends’ is set to bring along with it a whole range of business opportunities and events. Now, there’s more: Fathom Events just announced it’ll screen 12 “fan-favourite” episodes that have been “remastered in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative” in movie theaters all across the country this fall.

On September 23, September 28 and October 2, selected theatres will screen four different episodes as part of a tribute event that’s being aptly referred to as “Friends 25th: The One With The Anniversary.” Attendees can also expect to revel in never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews.

Produced in conjunction with Warner Bros., the anniversary celebration will involve over 1,000 movie theatres all over the United States. “The cultural impact that ‘Friends’ continues to have, 25 years after its premiere, is astounding, a true testament to the genius of Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Kevin Bright and the incredibly talented cast,” said Lisa Gregorian, Warner Bros. Television Group President and Chief Marketing Officer, in an official statement. “It is so amazing to know that the series is still bringing people of all ages together.”

The tribute event, which will surely open up additional revenue streams for Warner Bros., also falls in line with Fathom Events’ own industry mission: to expand movie theatre offerings beyond new studio releases.
