Barishal-Jhalakathi route

Bus communication resumes

Transport workers restarted to ply their vehicles from Barishal to Jhalakathi yesterday morning. They stopped running vehicles since June 15 keeping passenger of this route hostage.

The strike was called by Jhalakathi district bus owners-workers association protesting alleged assault on bus workers of their association at Rupatali bus terminal of Barishal in tussle with Barishal-Patuakhali bus-minibus owners and workers association over increasing stoppage charges at Rupatali bus terminal.

Due to disruption, the passengers of six south-western routes crossing Jhalakathi, were forced to get alternative transport crossing district borderline at Kalijira-Rayapur area.

So direct bus plying from Barishal to Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Bahandaria, Mathbaria, Bagerhut and Khulna have been stopped making huge number of passengers as hostages with sufferings to reach their south bound destinations crossing Jhalakathi, Due to sudden bus strike huge passengers forced to go to Kalijira point of Barishal district to take alternative vehicles.

Kawsar Hossain Shipon, secretary, Barisal-Patuakhali bus-minibus owners association, said the direct bus communication was resumed from yesterday morning after a negotiation meeting between the bus owners’ workers association leaders of Barishal and Jhalakathi districts. Ram Chandra Das, divisional commissioner presided over the meeting at his office on Monday night.
