In addition to holding meetings with the Prime Minister and the President, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners (DCs), for the first time, will interact with Chief Justice, Speaker of Parliament and chiefs of three services during the 5-day conference of DCs that will begin on Sunday (July 14). On July 16, the field officials will meet Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain at the Supreme Court Bhaban. The CJ will give directions to the DCs as per the schedule of the conference this year.

During the session with the defence ministry on July 17, the chiefs of three services—Chief of the Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat—will be present. The divisional commissioners and the DCs can interact with them.

On the last day of the conference on July 18, the field officials will meet the Speaker of Parliament, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, at the Parliament Secretariat to take directions from her.

Explaining the reason for the field officials’ interaction with the Chief Justice, the speaker and chiefs of three services, the secretary in charge (coordination & reforms) of the Cabinet Division, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said it will help develop relations between the field officials and the military, judiciary and Parliament and result in better coordination among the organisations.

“In addition to regular tasks, our fleld officials are having to work in new fields each day and are facing new challenges. During the interaction this time, new concepts would emerge and directives would be given accordingly to work together for a better Bangladesh,” he said.

After inaugurating the DC conference at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on July 14, the field officials will attend an open discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the discussion, DCs and divisional commissioners will raise various problems

and prospects, a senior official of the Cabinet Division told The Independent.

After hearing out the field officials, the Prime Minister is likely to give directives to implement the government’s development projects on time, help maintain law and order, and resolve other problems in consultation with the authorities concerned, the official said.

On the second day of the conference, the field officials will meet President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban. The President will give directives to the officials. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the DC conference at Shapla Hall at the Prime Minister’s Office at 9am on July 14.

Already, the divisional commissioner of Rangpur Division, on behalf of all divisional commissioners, has sent 333 proposals to the Cabinet Division. These will be placed at the working sessions of the conference.
