Imam ‘missing’ for 19 days

UNB, Shariatpur

The imam of a local mosque in Zanjira upazila reportedly remained missing for the last 19 days.

The victim is Faridul Islam, 45, imam of Moralkandi mosque in the upazila and son of late Ershad Ali of Muktagachha upazila in Mymensingh district. Alleging that her husband might have been killed and abduction in a planned way, victim’s wife Sabina Yasmin appealed to the police super for proper probe into the incident.

She said two groups of villagers had been at loggerheads over the job continuation of her husband.

Sabina said Faridul, who went to his village home, returned to Moralkandi village on June 20 and conducted Eshad prayers at the mosque.

However, his mobile phone was found switched off after 10:22pm and a resident of the village informed him after Juma prayers the following day that the imam was missing, she said. A general diary was lodged with Zanjira Police Station in this regard. Akbar Ali, a resident of Moralkandi village, said Faridul was appointed imam of the mosque six years ago and he used to stay in a room on the veranda of the mosque. He said the imam had enmity with anyone as far as he knew. Officer-in-charge of Zanjira Police Station Belayet Hossain they were trying to locate the imam.

158 people fall sick after             having ‘khichuri’ in Pabna

A total of 158 people have fallen sick during the past two days after having khichuri, a kind of dish made of rice and pulses, at Balrampur village under sadar upazila in the district.

An official of local health department said, “All 158 people were affected by diarrhoea after eating hotchpotch… Among the diarrhoea affected people, 53 were hospitalized in Pabna General Hospital.”

A medical team of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) is working to find out the reason of people’s illness. Deputy Commissioner told BSS that “All necessary measures have been taken to tackle the incident. All ailing people were given emergency medical treatments.”

Jashore man dies of heart attack after aunt’s death

UNB, Jashore

In a shocking incident, a man has died of heart attack in Keshabpur upazila soon after the funeral of his paternal aunt.

The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam Dafadar, 45, and his auntie Saira Begum, 65, wife of late Raj Ali Dafadar of Kamarpol village in the upazila.

Locals said Saira Begum breathed her last at her residence around 2:30 am on Monday. She was buried at their family graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza at 11:30am.

Rafiqul suffered a heart attack while returning home after the burial of his aunt. He died on the spot.

A pall of gloom descended on the area following the death of two members of a family.

2 electrocuted in Brahmanbaria

Two people were electrocuted in separate incidents in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Mostafa Mia, 40, of Paik Para village at Basudev union in Sadar upazila and Md Yasin Mian of Sutiyara village at Budhal union, police sources said.

Family sources said Mostafa Mia came in contact with a live electric wire while working with the electric line. He was rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

In another incident, Yasin Mian came in contact with an electric wire and sustained injuries. He was rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
