Zero tolerance against drug abuse, says additional DIG

Our Correspondent, Rajshahi

Law enforcers have adopted a “Zero Tolerance Policy” against drug abuse to make the society free from the menace, said Additional DIG Mahfuzur Rahman. Rahman, who joined as commanding officer of RAB-5, Rajshahi on June 12, said this at a view exchange meeting with journalists at the media centre of RAB-5 headquarters yesterday.

He mentioned that members of RAB-5 seized a huge quantity of contraband heroin, phensidyl, yaba tablets, liquor, hemp and other items worth about Tk 2.82 crore in separate drives in the last 12 days.

The law enforcers also took steps against drug smugglers, drug traders, druggies and drug smuggling syndicates to put up a strong resistance against the aggression of drugs in the society.  Rahman urged the journalists to help the law enforcers by providing them with necessary information in this regard.

In reply to a question that some unscrupulous members of law-enforcement agencies are still facilitating the drug dealers in smuggling drugs, the CO said those whoever he may be, must get punishment.

Nationwide anti-narcotics drive will continue until the illegal drug trade comes under control. Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC), police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are working in this regard.

Squadron leader Syed Abdullah Al-Murad, Police Super Jannat Ara, Additional SP Mynul Islam, Captain Ashraful Islam, ASP Sheikh Mohammad Anwar Hossain were present, among others, at the meeting.
