Tamim surpasses Bashar’s previous ODI record against Australia

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal surpassed Habibul Bashar Sumon’s previous record as the highest run-marker for Bangladesh in one-day internationals against Australia yesterday. Tamim first matched the record of Sumon with a single when he got on the top of it and dabbed Mitchell Starc’s short of length delivery towards deep backward square leg.

The left-handed batsman, therefore, surpassed him with another single off Starc during the crucial sixth World Cup fixture at the Trent Bridge, where Bangladesh are yet to win any one-day international, having twice lost to England in 2005 and 2010 respectively.

The south-paw was just eight runs away from the record of Sumon, who had scored 289 in 11 outings. Before the match against Australia at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the south-paw had racked up 281 runs in his eight matches.

In addition, Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist is the leading Aussies ran-maker who compiled 444 runs from 12-match-road string.
