No trace of Sohel Taj’s nephew

Allegation against Rab denied
Staff Reporter, Ctg

The law enforcement agencies are yet to make any headway to trace whereabouts of Sayed Iftekhar Alam alias (Sourav), nephew of former state minister for home affairs Tanzim Ahmed Sohel Taj, who was allegedly abducted from city’s Prabartak area on June 9.

Syed Md Idris Alam, father of Sourav, claimed that the cell phone number of Sourav is still active. He said they received several calls from his son’s WhatsApp account at around 2:20am but didn’t get any response from the opposite side. He said, “We informed the matter to the law enforcers. They said they would use technology to trace out the location of the mobile”.

While contacted, Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchalaish Police Station, said, “It is the statement of Sourav’s family but so far we cannot trace him. However, we are tying earnestly to trace him.”

Syed Md Idris Alam also alleged that the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) might have behind the kidnapping of his son. Earlier on May 16, RAB-1 allegedly picked up Sourav from his capital’s Banani residence for interrogation and released him after 24-hour as they found him innocent.

“RAB told us that they picked up Sourav following a written complaint against him but freed him later saying that they didn’t found his involvement with the matter,” said Idris Alam.

Sourav’s parents alleged in the facebook live of Sohel Taj that following a phone call of the RAB-1 Sourav came out from his home and met them on the premises of Afmi Palza. In CCTV footage it was seen that he left the place by a black-coloured Prado.

However, RAB- denied the allegation. While contacted, Sarwar Bin Quasem, commanding officer of RAB-1, told The Independent, “There is no involvement of RAB-1 with the incident.”

On June 15, former state minister for home affairs Sohel Taj in a facebook post alleged that his cousin’s son was abducted from Chattogram city.

In the status, Sohel claimed that they knew who the abductors were and requested them to bring his nephew back to his family safely.

Sohel Taj in a facebook live yesterday (Wednesday) said they were still waiting for Sourav’s return.

In facebook post he also said that he would investigate the matter and will inform the update to the people through his facebook live.
