Mentally challenged girl ‘gang-raped’ in Netrakona

UNB, Netrakona

A mentally challenged girl was reportedly gang-raped in Kendua upazila on Monday afternoon.

Police arrested three alleged rapists -- Kajal, 40, Humayun, 25, son of Abdur Rahman, and Jamrul, 28, son of Rais Uddin of Chandlara village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station Mohammad Rasheduzzaman said four people took the girl, 20, to a jungle when she reached Sakhra village around 3pm on her way back home at Goradob village from her auntie's house at Shibpur, and violated her.

 They took her to a cowshed at Pubail village and raped her there in turns, he said.  Sensing the incident, locals rescued her. On information, police conducted a drive and arrested the three alleged rapists.

Miscreants cut off woman’s hand over extortion

UNB, Bogura

A group of miscreants cut off a hand of a housewife and beat five others as they refused to give them extortion money at Koigari village in Dhunat upazila on Monday.

The victim is Sahena Begum, 50, wife of farmer Kapil Uddin of the village.

Locals said thieves took away the solar panel's battery of Rashel Memorial Association (club) around three months back. Following this incident, to buy a new battery, a group of youths demanded subscription of Tk 100 to Rubel, son of Kapil Uddin of the village. But Rubel disagreed to pay the money as he is not a member of the club. For this reason, the group numbering 15/20 attacked him while Rubel's family members came to save him.

The miscreants group beat all of them. At one stage, the gang hacked Sahena Begum with sharp weapon, cutting off her hand from the elbow.

Later, they dumped the detached hand into the nearby pond and fled the scene, locals said. Police arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

Man hacked to death

UNB, Shariatpur

A man was hacked to death allegedly by his rivals over previous enmity in Chandani village of Naria upazila on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Yakub Ali, 48, local trader of Chandani village. Bhojeswar Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Haque said Yakub was on his way to Kalabagan area around 9am when a gang of miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons leaving him severely injured.

After the attack, the attackers fled while locals rushed Yakub to Sadar Hospital.

The doctors of Sadar Hospital referred Yakub to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) but on the way to Dhaka he succumbed to his wounds.
