6 killed in Chandpur, Jashore, Dinajpur road crashes

Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Chandpur, Jashore and Dinajpur road accidents yesterday.

In Chandpur, two people were killed and two others injured as a bus hit an auto-rickshaw at Gabtali in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Imran Hossain, 34, official of Social Islami Bank of Gazipur branch and an inhabitant of Hajiganj municipality area, and his niece Fatema Akhter, 10, daughter of Alamgir Hossain of the area.

The bus hit the Chandpur-bound auto-rickshaw around 6:30 am, leaving Imran dead on the spot and three passengers injured.

The injured were taken to Chandpur General Hospital where doctors referred Fatema to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, she died on the way to Dhaka, said Rezaul Karim, sub-inspector of Chandpur Model Police Station.

The injured Ratan Chandra Shil, 30, and Jewel Hossain, 35, are undergoing treatment at Chandpur General Hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and two others injured as a brick- laden pick up van ran over them while they were crossing Chandpur-Cumilla road in Madari area of Chandpur Sadar upazila at around 10 am.  

The deceased was identified as Jharna Begum, 35,  hailed from Sreepur village of Hajiganj.    

Our Jashore correspondent adds: A bus helper was killed and 20 others were injured on Jashore-Magura road in Nongorpur  area of Sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Hossain Ali Biswas, 20, of Baliadanga village under Jashore Sadar upazila.

Police said the accident took place at around 5.30 am when a bus of Eagle Paribahan hit a roadside tree as the driver of the bus lost control over the steering, leaving Hossain dead on the spot and injuring 20 passengers of the bus.

OC of Kotwali Police Station Apurba Hasan said a case was filed and the bus was seized.  

In Dinajpur, two women were killed in a road accident in Vaduria Bazar area on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj road under Nawabganj upazila yesterday, reports BSS.

The deceased were identified as Amena Begum, 67, and her daughter-in-law Shahida Begum, 55, of Bagunbari village under Ghoraghat upazila of the district. Police said the accident occurred when a speedy truck crushed Amena and Shahida under its

wheels in the area around 11 am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving them dead on the spot.
