BCB monitors security state before touring SL

SPORTS REPORTER, DHAKA
BCB monitors security
state before touring SL

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan on Tuesday said that they are closely monitoring the security situation in Sri Lanka, whereby Bangladesh are scheduled to tour in the aftermath of the ICC Cricket World Cup, England and Wales-2019.

Shujan also said that they will take opinions from their various stakeholders including our foreign ministry and Bangladesh High Commission to Sri Lanka before taking their final decision on making the tour in this period of time.

The tour was slated to play in December but the BCB is planning to organise the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in that period. Which is why, the schedule was brought forward July from December.

The tour consists of three one-day internationals that are expected to be held on July 25, 27 and 29 respectively.

Following the last month’s dreadful suicide terror attack on hotels and churches in the islands nation, which left over 300 people dead including Bangladeshi national along with many more injured, the touring team has been worried about their tour at this moment.

The Bangladesh are being cautious more after a Pakistan Under-19 cricket team’s tour of the country was postponed for an indefinite period.

“We’re concerned about the scenario in Sri Lanka,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan.

“We’ll take opinions from our foreign ministry and the Bangladesh High Commission to Sri Lanka. We’re also possibly to hold discussions with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) during the Asian Cricket Council meeting later this month,” Shujan told media at his BCB office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

Bangladesh was called off their New Zealand tour in March before their tour ending Third Test immediately after a brazen terror attack on different two mosques in Christchurch.

The bulk of the players of the visiting side were nearly caught in the crosshairs after they arrived at the Al Noor Mosque, one of the sites of the attacks, just few minutes after the shooter had left the scene with his automatic rifles.

The BCB has been monitoring the security situation wherever their teams are traveling since the dreadful incident in New Zealand.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that the BCB security team will properly scrutinize every Bangladesh tour so that they can stop and avoid a repeat of the Christchurch situation.

Bangladesh are in Ireland for a tri-nation series, where they have arranged a security net with the help of private security personnel, ICC-provided security coupled with BCB men’s and local Irish security.

They will restore the same security arrangement for the Tigers during their stay of the ICC Cricket World Cup in United Kingdom (UK) from May to July.
