‘Shakib will perform in due time’

Bashar doesn’t worry about losing to Ireland Wolves
SPORTS REPORTER, DHAKA
‘Shakib will perform in due time’

The way all are predicting of the high-scoring match in ICC Cricket World Cup which basically generates a conundrum among the participating teams like Bangladesh that they have to be ready to chase big target or make more runs on the board to triumph the match.

More than 300 or 300-plus will have to score by the teams on regular basis on England condition. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Habibul Bashar Sumon has resonated with the notion and stating that whether you call preparation or test for the World Cup it will be started with tomorrow’s match (West Indies-Bangladesh match in tri-series).

“The stadiums in Ireland are comparatively smaller. When I visited there last year, almost every match witnessed a high scoring thriller. If the wicket is good, the high-scoring match will then be done this time around,” said Habibul Bashar Sumon.

“Even though West Indies have no six-seven of their regular players, the current squad are also good enough what they are playing. Batting is stronger. I think, the competition will be stiff. If the overcast condition is not there, the competition will then be good,” Sumon told media at the media lounge of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

“All are talking about high-scoring match in World Cup. Whether you call preparation or test of the high-scoring match for the World Cup will be started with tomorrow’s match,” he added.

BCB selector tipped the loss in warm-up match as unfortunate and said that the different scenario will be seen in the main games of the Tri-nation series.

“Definitely, it was unexpected but it’s a practice game. There is nothing to talk about it because our tournament is yet to start which will be started with tomorrow’s match,” he thought.

“What we do there is a matter of watching. It’s very important. Prior to the World Cup, the tournament is important for us,” he continued.

“In practice match, a team tries to do some more experiments in terms of team combination, bowler selection and so on. So, the result is not in mind so much. Probably that’s happened,” he added.

“The condition was probably difficult. There was a bit cooler and so it has been problem to make their adjustment with it. I’m sure that our game will be different when we will go back to our match games.”

“Our team management seeks to see our bowling attack. They use all the bowlers to see their bowling on this condition. There was an impression of it in the match. In practice match, none bowled their cent percent of their bowling. For this, the bowling is not done up to the mark. But I’m hopeful that the matter will be different when the main game will be held.”

But he said that it is important for a player to stay in runs whether it is practice or main game of a tournament.

“I think, it’s important to remain in runs whether it is practice match or main match. It does not vary much whether a play makes runs or not in the practice match. But if players could make runs, it would be better for him,” he viewed.

“As far as I know, the condition was a bit difference and difficult also. Batsmen did not bat as per their expectation. But we’ve seen the wicket in the main game between Ireland and the West Indies that was a different. Probably batting is not done as per the expectation but there is no need to be worried or discussion so much on it at this moment, I think,” he told.

When asked about Taskin, Sumon said, “I don’t see the match. If I could have seen the match, I would understand has he (Taskin) got his rhythm back? It’s not always understood everything to see only the scorecard. He just played a match. We’ve some more games ahead. Those, the team management who are there will assess the bowlers who are doing well.”

“I’ve no worries about Shakib. Even it’s not right for me to worry about him. He is No. 1 all-rounder has been playing cricket for so long. Shakib does not need to take more times to make his adjustment. There is no cause to think that he has come back as he made runs. The player like Shakib has no need to transform them to a format from another format. He has proved him on many occasions in the past. So, I’ve no worry over Shakib. He is a player of big match, will perform in due time,” he said of Shakib.
