A Filipiniana section was opened at Central Public Library in the capital yesterday with a view to introducing the culture, literature and social scenarios of the Philippines to Bangladeshi book lovers. State Minister for Ministry of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid was present as the chief guest at the inauguration programme.

The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, in coordination with the Central Public Library, introduced the section that features a collection of books and reference materials about the Philippines and its culture.  After the inauguration, the state minister said the section aims at strengthening the cultural bondage between the two countries and will encourage further activities in the days to come.  Khalid also thanked the Philippines Ambassador in Dhaka Vicencio Vivencio T. Bandillo for the initiative.

In response, Ambassador Bandillo said, “We know that the Bangladeshis are book lovers. By reading the books, they could know about the history, geography of Philippines.” He also urged all to come to the central library to go through books in the newly introduced corner.  Ashish Kumar Sharker, Director General of Department of Public Libraries (DoPL), lauded the Philippines initiative. Among others, officials of the Philippines embassy, the DoPL, and Philippines community members were present on the occasion.
