Govt plans mega sports events

Mega sports events will be staged including a football match participated by two European teams, two T-20 Cricket matches with the participation of Asian and World stars and an athletics meet will take place to observe the 100th birthday  of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020.   

Leading stars of track and field of the South Asian region will be invited to participate in this international athletics. Ministry of Youth and Sports is planning to observe the 100th birthday of Bangabandhu gorgeously with organising some mega sports competitions in Dhaka.

Regarding to execute their plans, presided over by the State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel there was a meeting on Wednesday and they have already set a preliminary programme giving priority football, cricket and athletics events.

Attended by the president of the of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan Papon MP, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, president of the Bangladesh Athletics Federation ASM Ali Kabir and the presidents of some other federations discussed in details and  have also chalked out a preliminary programme.

Zahid Ahsan Russel when informed the media about their plan said, “We want to observe the “Mujib Borsha’ with organising some attractive disciplines, considering the popular events like  cricket and football. Our target is to draw the attraction of all people to sports.”

In the meeting BFF president Salahuddin expressed his plan to organise a match with inviting two European teams and to organise the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International football tournament with more elaborately. Nazmul Hassan’s plan is to organize two T20 cricket matches with the participation of Bangladesh national team and the World X1 and the Asian X1.

ASM Ali Kabir, president of the BAF Ali Kabir planned to organise a meet with the participation of the South Asian Athletes and inter school and inter college athletics competition across the country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier announced the 2020 as ‘Mujib Barsho’ and the government will also observe the year in a befitting manner.
