Faruque, Ash hail WC squad best of the time

BCB should ‘work for off-form players’

Faruque, Ash hail WC
squad best of the time

Former national captains threw bouquets at the Bangladesh squad announced for the ICC Cricket World Cup. They all branded the Bangladesh World Cup squad has been the best of the time.

The curtain of the extravaganza ICC event of the top 10 teams across the cricketing world will be raised in the United Kingdom (UK) on May 30, for which Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selectors on Tuesday named their 15-member Tigers’ squad before the cut-out time. Congratulating the players of the World Cup squad, the former captain Faruque Ahmed said that the team management should work for the off-form players so that they can get back their form before the showpiece event.

“I congratulate all the players of the Bangladesh World Cup squad and best wishes for them on their great journey. The squad has been good. Those who have been provided their service for the team has been picked them all,” said Faruque Ahmed.

“There is no problem in the squad but the problem is uncertainty of the team. As it’s being told that they want to take opportunity of changing the team till May 23 because ICC kept a chance to swap player in the squad within the period. It’s not needed to say in public. Change might be happened in the squad if needed,” Ahmed told The Independent yesterday.

“It should not be told during the announcement of the team. For this the normal game in Ireland will be disrupted. Players will be under pressure to perform. For this pressure, some good players might be dropped what is not totally acceptable. As of now all in the board are involved in formation of the team, everybody can think about it. Those who have been picked for the team should be inspired them to play better brand of cricket,” he added.

He said that the bowling battery especially pace unit is good but it would be better for the bowling variation if a specialist left-arm spinner would be added to the fleet.

“The team has been picked for the World Cup has been good in term of condition and combination. The pace unit has been made up of Mashrafe, Rubel, Mustafiz, Rahi and Saifuddin, that’s good. Shakib and Miraj have been opted for the spinners. Mosaddek and Mahmudullah bowl spin,” he said.

“But it would be better for bowling variation if a left-arm spinner would be taken in the squad. There is a depth in batting, where batsmen will be seen at No 7. Tamim, Soumya and Liton chose for the opening. Shakib, Mushfiq, Mahmudullah, Sabbir and Mosaddek made the batting line-up stronger,” he viewed.

“At this moment, it’ll be big responsibility for the team management to bring those players back in rhythm, are not playing well in the league. Make sure the bowlers fit before the World Cup who have injuries. I told this thing again that the uncertainty around the team might be harmful,” he added.

Former skipper Mohammad Ashraful said keeping Bangladesh ‘third’ among the teams that the mega event in England and Wales will be big challenging for bowlers than batsmen. “It is, I think, the best Bangladesh team in World Cup. In terms of batting, I keep us third among the teams. When the World Cup will start, it’ll be the summer in England. From my personal experience, batsmen will get benefit from the wicket. You’ll see, every team will score 250-300 or 300-plus runs. For this the World Cup, I think, will be challenging for the bowlers,” said Mohammad Ashraful.

“There will be Mustafiz and Rubel with Mashrafe in pace attack. Saifuddin is in form and Rahi who is yet to debut in one day international, has good swing. They all have to give their cent percent for the team’s success,” Ashraful said.

“In spin, Miraj will be with Shakib. I think, they are enough for the team because there will not have much to do on English condition. Considering the team combination, I expect some more from the team,” he added.
