Justice for Nusrat demanded

Different socio-cultural and human rights organisations formed  human chains in the city yesterday  protesting the killing of Madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi. Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set ablaze on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the principal for sexually harassing her late last month.

Only a few minutes before the Alim exams on April 6, four unidentified people allegedly took Nusrat to the roof of the madrasa administrative building saying one of her friends was being assaulted there. She lost her battle for life on April 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, five days after she was set fire.

She was later buried at her family graveyard at Uttar Charchandia village in Sonagazi Upazila.

The programmes were held separately under the banners of Gana Natya Sangtha, Sammilita Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Pratirodh Committee, Sammilita Samajik Andalan Committee, district and city branches of Human Rights Commission, United Communist League, Communist Party, Mahila Parishad, and Chhatra Union etc.

Ribera Keaton, Puspa Chakrabarty, Shah Sajeda, Rahima Sultana Kajal, Khaleda Huq, Kohinur Begum, Hasina Nila, Imanul Hakim, Anwar Zahid, Abdul Hye Mahbub, Mozammel Hossain, Abdus Sattar, Abdul Hye Mahbub, Mizanur Rahman Selim,Birendra Nath,  Nripendranath Baroi, Shah Azizur Rahman, Harunor Rashid, Swapna Das and Santu Mitra, spoke among others.

Speakers and the participants condemning the heinous killing said in recent days atrocities and attack against women and children increased and liable criminals taking procrastinations of the legal procedures remained unpunished.
