A section of Barishal University (BU) teachers expressed solidarity yesterday with the on going movement of students to remove vice chancellor of the university. The students have been continuing the agitation since March 27 demanding removal of Vice Chancellor Dr S M Imamul Huq.

Lokman Hossain, a student, said a six-member team of the BU Teachers Association led by Arif Hossain, former president of the association, met the  students on Saturday and expressed solidarity with the ongoing students movement. Jotirmoy Biswas, a teacher of the team, said we visited the students to express our solidarity with the movement and extended our supports to their legitimate demands.

We also appealed to the chancellor, prime minister, education minister for taking steps for ending deadlock of BU to avoid session jam, he added.

During the programme, among others, Asim Kumar Nandy, Sadekur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Sohel Rana, teachers of BU were also present.

Earlier Abu Zafar Mia, secretary of BU Teachers Association, on April 10 also expressed solidarity with the ongoing movement.

On March 26, students started demonstrations claiming that the VC arranged the Independence Day programme on the campus without inviting students.

However, the VC reportedly labelled them as sons of Razakars.

UNB adds: The teachers and students of Barishal University (BU) continued their demonstrations on the campus demanding removal of the vice-chancellor.
