Include child labour in dried fish sector as worst form of child labour

Civil Society leaders demand
Staff Reporter, Dhaka

Civil Society leaders at a workshop called for including child labour in dried fish sector as worst form of child labour. Physical, social and health conditions of the child workers are being affected due to working in the sector located mainly in Cox’s Bazaar. But the child labour in the sector is yet to be recognised as the worst forms of child labour, they said.

They made the remarks while addressing a ‘Sharing Workshop on Awareness Raising with Government Key Stakeholders’ at Shishu Academy in the capital yesterday.

Government officials also committed to take necessary steps in this regard.    INCIDIN Bangladesh, a national development organisation working for ensuring rights of children,  organised the programme supported by Winrock International with financial support from the US Department of Labour.

Chaired by Gaziuddin Mohammad Munir, deputy secretary of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Anjir Liton, director of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, attended the programme as special guest.

Moderated by AK Masud Ali, executive director of INCIDIN, Advocate Rafiqual Islam Khan, manager (policy support) of INCIDIN, and AHM Zaman Khan, project director of CLIMB, Winrock International, presented keynote papers.

Reducing child labour is one of the objectives of achieving two SDG goals (8 and 16).
