Bangladesh eye semifinal spot

Eying to play in the semifinal of the SAFF Championship, a 28-member squad including 21 players of Bangladesh national women’s team al set to leave for Biratnagar, Nepal today at 10am.        

The fifth edition of the SAFF women’s championship will start from March 12 with hosts Nepal taking on Bhutan in the opening match while Bangladesh will begin their campaign fro March 14.

Bangladesh team comprised with maximum young players, who just returned home from Myanmar with some glory qualifying in the AFC Under -16 final round claiming the runners-up position.

Meanwhile, this squad also contains 14 players, who are experienced of playing in the previous SAFF (2016) Championships and all 21 players of the list also have experiences playing in the different international competitions in home and abroad for last few years.

And coach Golam Rabbani Choton also relies on the players’ experiences when the head coach said in a press conference yesterday at the Bangladesh Football Federation regarding the women’s team participation in the SAFF from March 12.

Choton recalling the tough time of Bangladesh women’s team, when they used to suffer defeat in the international arena, said, “Once we had very poor condition and had to struggle much lack of enough international exposure, but for last few years, we obtained lot of experiences playing in the various competition in home and abroad.”

“Our girls are not in same position as they were, for few years, we are also fighting evenly with some of the rivals and I can say we gained experiences and our girls also achieved some success in age group level also defeating those rivals to whom they suffered defeats earlier very often,” Choton added.

“I can say, our camp has been going continuously, you know, we had the assignment of AFC Under-16 qualifying Round-2 where we clinched the runners-up position to qualify in the final round when we had a long term practice for that competition.”

“Besides the girls of Under-16, the team went to Myanmar accompanied by all the players, who are in this SAFF squad because we wanted all the players would stay together and would have a conditioning camp.”
