24 rebel AL candidates in fray

A total of 24 rebel Awami League (AL) candidates have submitted nomination papers for the upazila election in Noakhali district. In Companiganj, four disgruntled AL candidates, including AL former upazila chairman Sahabuddin and current upazila parishad chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal, have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman.

In Kabirhat, three chairman candidates, including the current upazila chairperson, who is also wife of lawmaker Ekarmul Kari, district AL member Allahbox Titu, upazila AL member Khadama Akther Rozi, who is also sister of Kabirhat municipality mayor Jahiruddin Rahan, have submitted their nomination papers.  A tough contest is likely in Kabirhat five rebel candidates have submitted nomination for the post of vice–chaiperson. Three candidates have submitted nominations for the vice-chairperson’s post reserved for women.      

In Senbagh, two rebel candidates have submitted nominations for the post of chairperson: former upazila AL president Jafar Ahmed chowdhury and former AL industry and business affairs secretary Lion Jahangir Alam Manik.

In Sonaimuri, four rebel candidates, including AL district unit vice-president Khadakar Ruhul Amin and Sonaimuri AL general secretary AFM Babul, have submitted nomination papers for the chairperson’s post.  In Chatkhil, six disgruntled AL candidates, including Haj Jahangir Alam and Belal Chowdhury, have submitted nomination for the post of chairperson. Besides, JP upazila vice-president Abul Hasan Bhiyuan Kumkum and independent candidate Rahim uddin have also submitted nomination papers.

In Begumganj, three rebel candidates—district AL organising secretary Omar Farque Badsha, former upazila chairman BP Mohammad Ullah and JP Abdur Ruf—have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairperson.

In Subarnachar, two rebel candidates have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairperson. They are: district AL president Prof. Kharul Anam Selim and Dedarul Islam of Workers Party.
