Polling officials urged to perform duties with sincerity

BSS, Rajshahi

Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam has asked the polling officers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for making the upcoming Upazila Parishad (UZP) election free, fair and credible.

“Present Election Commission (EC) is pledged bound to make the local government election neutral and successful and the polling officials are the key players to this end,” he further said while addressing a training workshop for the polling officers at Charghat Upazila Parishad conference hall in the district yesterday as chief guest.

Election to eight UZPs in the district will be held on March 10 simultaneously. Chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Haque, the meeting was addressed by Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah, Regional Election Officer Faridul Islam and Senior District Election Officer Saiful Islam as special guests.

Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam categorically said the EC has been working relentlessly for holding the election in a free, fair and acceptable manner. “Stern action will be taken against those found guilty of making the elections questionable,” he further said.

Rafiqul Islam said none will go unpunished if he or she is found to be guilty of hindering the process of holding the election free and fair. All the disturbing elements will be brought to book as the EC will not compromise with anyone in this regard.

A total of 1,276 polling officers including 52 presiding officers, 408 assistant presiding officers and 856 polling officers took part in the workshop.
