NID mandatory for 7 inter-city train tickets from March 20

Staff Reporter, Dhaka
NID mandatory for 7 inter-city train tickets from March 20

Passengers will have to provide their national identity (NID) cards or birth registration certificates from March 20 while purchasing tickets from seven intercity trains, said a notice by the Bangladesh Railway (BR) recently.

Apart from this, a passenger will be able to get registered through the BR website, e-ticketing website and railway mobile apps and station counters said the notice.

The passengers must show the original ticket. There will not be allowed any picture of ticket or SMS (short message service).

To buy tickets with anyone’s ID, the person will have to collect the tickets before the train left the station, said the notice.

The seven trains are: Chattogram-bound Subarna Express, Mohanagar Ghodhuli/ Provati Express and Turna Express; Sylhet-bound Parabat Express; Khulna-bound Chittra Express; Rajshahi-bound Padma Express and Dinajpur-bound Drutojan Express.

Earlier, on January 1, the BR authorities took the project to curb ticket scalping which has implemented for Sonar Bangla Express a direct inter-city train on Dhaka-Chattogram route.

After a successful implementation of it, the BR took the decision for all inter-city trains, said an official of BR.

Sitangshu Chakraborty, station manager of Kamalapur Railway Station, said besides the NID number, the passengers will have to provide his or her mobile number for registration. During their next purchases they will not need national ID number; rather they would just have to provide their mobile phone numbers, Sitangshu said.

In one NID or birth registration number, passengers will be able to purchase four tickets, said Sitangshu.
