BCB may finalise players for central contract today

Sports Reporter, Dhaka
BCB may finalise players for central contract today

The first meeting of New Year of the  board of directors of  Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held at the BCB management office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur today. The meeting is expected to start at 11:00am.

A string of important issues including construction of the Purbachal Stadium, players’ contract for the year of 2019, Dhaka Premier League (DPL), new Twenty20 tournament, regional cricket at new division after Sylhet along with other regular and financial issues will be discussed and approved in the executive board meeting.

The much-anticipated issue of the construction of the new stadium at Purbachal is likely to get top priority among the issues in the meeting because Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) recently handed over the authority of the land to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

BCB director and its media and publication committee chairman Jalal Younus in this regard said that what will be the next procedure of the construction of the new stadium at Purbachal after getting the authority of the land from Rajuk will be discussed in the meeting along with others issues.

“We have some more issues in our hand. Of these issues, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) recently handed over the authority of the land of the stadium in Purbachal to BCB after being remained stagnant the issue so long,” said Jalal Younus.

“Now what will be our next step, how we will start the procedure of the works and how will finish the work which will be discussed in the meeting,” Jalal told The Independent yesterday.

“We have some matters of auditing which will be approved in the meeting before sending to International Cricket Council (ICC),” he added.

It is also learnt from the BCB sources that a total of 10-12 names including Mashrafe Bin Mortaza have been sent to BCB Cricket Operation Committee for the National Team Contract of the January-December 2019 period after evaluating their performance.

There is an unclear message in and around the cricket arena that Mashrafe will retire from international cricket after the ICC World Cup-England and Wales, 2019. That is not considered in this regard because the BCB has no specific information of his retirement from international cricket.

Last year, the number of six players in the central contract has been reduced to10 from 16. But a new category of ‘Rookie’ had been introduced with three players. This year fast-bowler Abu Jayed Rahi and spinner Nayeem Hasan might newly be included in rookie category.

Liton Kumar Das and Mohammad Saifuddin might be stepped into the central contract. Even though Sabbir Rahman Rumman has been named for the New Zealand tour, he will also be out of the contract.

Last year Rumman had been scraped from the central contract due to his misbehavour with umpire and fans on social media during the domestic cricket league.
