Tigers squad for NZ tour likely today

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

While all the players and team management are busy in drumbeats of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the BCB selectors silently prepared the final Tigers squad for the upcoming away tour of New Zealand.

It’s learnt from the BCB Cricket Operation Committee sources that the squad is expected to announce today (Wednesday).

This time some of the players, who had dropped from the national team due to the off-form, injury layoff and other disciplinary issues, could be staged their much-needed comeback in the series ahead of the ICC World Cup-England and Wales-the extravaganza of the 50-overs is scheduled to play in between May-July, 2019.

Fit-again fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, all-rounders Sabbir Rahman Rumman, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat along with Shafiul Islam, Nazmul Islam Apu and Nayeem Hasan among the players are now under the radar of the board.

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who captained Rangpur Riders in BPL, also hinted at the post-match press conference at the media block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.

“I think, Taskin (Ahmed) did well. Along with that, Shafiul Islam also did well. Sabbir did well in a match. If he could go on performing, it will be better for him,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

“If you see the overall then there is no chance of wholesale change. There are some places if they could do well, in that case, chances for them will have to step into the team,” Mashrafe told media.

“Still the tournament is not finished,” he added.

The captain admitted that Sabbir has ability to play such knock that might be placed him in the team if he could continue it along the tournament.

“Still I will not say anything. But the innings he played against us last match it was what he did for the national team,” he said.

“There is no chance of changing much if you look at the six positions from the top order. May be there is chance to bring extra pacer, batsman and spinner, in that case, they will have got prioritized chances.
