Sports Reporter, Dhaka
Fizz sole Tiger to find place in ICC ODI team

Pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been named in ICC Men’s ODI team of the year, making him the only player from Bangladesh to find a place in the elite list. Adorably called as the Fizz, Mustafizur played 18 ODIs in 2018 and took 29 wickets with the best bowling figures of four for 43 runs against Pakistan in Asia Cup. He helped the Bangladesh to overcome the challenge of Pakistan to propel the team to the final. ICC has named Virat Kohli as the ODI player of the year 2018, and he was named as the captain of the ODI team of the year as well. Kohli in fact has become the first player in history to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards following an extraordinary 2018. He is also announced as the captain of ICC Test team in which no Bangladeshi players found a place.

Mustafizur stormed into the international cricket back in 2015 with his deadly cutters and slower but he enjoyed most success in 2018. In the first year of his career, the left-arm pacer took 26 wickets in nine ODIs. In 2016, he was out of action in most parts of the year due to a shoulder injury. He played only two ODIs in 2016 and bagged four wickets.

Back from the injury in 2017, Mustafizur took 17 wickets in 11 ODIs and during the calendar year of 2018, he took 29 wickets in 18 encounters.

The team contains four players from India and England, and one player from each of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. There is no player from Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Windies.

ICC Men’s ODI team of the year 2018: Rohit Sharma (India), Jonny Bairstow (England), Virat Kohli (India) (capt), Joe Root (England), Ross Taylor (New Zealand),  Jos Buttler (England) (wk), Ben Stokes (England), Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Kuldeep Yadav(India), Jasprit Bumrah (India)
