Land officials must provide wealth info by Feb 28: Minister

STAFF REPORTER, Ctg

The newly-appointed Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury yesterday directed employees of the land offices across the country to submit their wealth statements by February 28. He came up with the direction in a view exchanging meeting with the reporters in Chattogram Press Club. “During the parliamentary election I have submitted the statement of my properties. Starting from the ministry, all the officials and employees of all the Upazila and all the

Union Land Offices of the country are now verbally giving direction to submit their wealth statement,” the minister said. Saifuzzaman also said that he would issue a circular soon as all could submit their wealth statements within February 28. The minister added that he would start abrupt visits to the land offices too. “After circulating notice for the land acquisition, cases are filed. Lower-level staffs of the land office are involved with it. So, we found out a system that case will be quashed if filed after circulating acquisition notice,” he added.

Mentioning that many large projects including Bay Terminal, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Railline, and Economic Zone are being implemented in Chattogram, he said the entire illegal establishment on both sides of the Karnaphuli River will be evicted and no one will be spared.

The minister also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the responsibility for the development of Chattogram. “I will just propose large projects,” he added.
