Docu-film ‘Merciless Mayhem’ to be screened at Public Library today

A documentary film ‘Merciless Mayhem: the Bangladesh Genocide through Pakistani Eyes’ will be screened today at 7pm at the Public Library Auditorium, Shahbagh in the capital. The film is being screened as a part of the 17th edition of the ongoing festival titled ‘Dhaka International Film Festival’ (DIFF).

Directed by Fuad Chowdhury, the film features interviews of a group of expatriate Pakistanis, who shared their experiences of the Bangladesh genocide committed by Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.

In the film, these Pakistani nationals express their thoughts and feelings about the mistreatment of Bengalis by their civil and military leaders, all the way from the beginning of Pakistan as a country in 1947. They also share their firsthand-eye-witness experiences of political activities and tricks, surrounding the 1970’s election. They also reveal the conspiracies and plans of Bengali ethnic cleansing, made by the West Pakistani politicians and military rulers of 1970s.

The documentary tells the political history of Pakistan’s first 23 years in the form of interviews with a brief narration of Fuad where he mainly connects the dots. The documentary mainly represents Pakistani’s view about Bengalis, politics in undivided Pakistan until 1971, rapes and killings of unarmed Bengali people committed by Pakistani Military in the war of 1971, conspiracies of West Pakistani politicians against Bengalis, and many other topics. Since 1971 we heard the claims from many sides about mass killing and genocides ran by Pakistani military; this time let us listen to the Pakistani’s accounts from their own mouth. This is the first time Fuad compile the statements of Pakistanis in a single film which differs from defeated Military General’s view.

Where: Public Library Auditorium, Shahbag

When: 7pm, today
