Two killed in road crash

UNB, Habiganj

Two motorcyclists were killed as a truck hit their vehicle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in front of Dinarpur Dakhil Madrasa in Nabiganj upazila early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Naim Ahmed, 26, son of Arzu Miah of Sataihal village and Shimul Ahmed, 25, son of late Azmad Miah of Goznaipur village.

Police said that the accident took place on the highway around 1am when the truck hit the motorcycle from behind, leaving Shimul dead on the spot and Naim critically injured. Later, Shimul died on the way to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Man held on charge of killing wife

UNB, Noakhali

Members of Police Bureau of Investigation arrested a man from Moulvi Pukurpara under Chatgaon thana in Chattogram city early yesterday over the killing of his wife in Noakhali Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.

The arrestee was Sheikh Selim, 29, hailing from Lohagara upazila in Narail district, and he worked as mason in Chattogram. Noakhali Superintendent of Police Md Elias Sharif said that a team of PBI conducted a drive in the area and arrested Selim.

Later, Selim confessed to his involvement in the murder.

Police recovered the severely hacked and slaughtered body of Parvin Akhter Fahima, 17, daughter of Jahurul Haque of Purba Sullukia village, from a jungle adjacent to her house on Wednesday night. Later, PBI started investigation into the murder. After tracking phone number of Selim, PBI confirmed his location and arrested him.

Man held with phensidyl

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug peddler with 296 bottles of phensidyl from a mango orchard at Ekbarpur Daktartola village under Binadpur union of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Friday night.

The arrestee was Md Nazir Hossain, 25, of Biswanath Ghantala under Shibganj upazila of the district.

RAB said acting on a tip-off, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at 9:30 pm and arrested Nazir with the bottles of phensidyl, worth Tk 2,07,200.

2 held with 840 yaba tablets

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Patuakhali

Police arrested a man and his son with 840 yaba tablets at Mahipur fish port in Kalapara upazila under Patuakhali district on Friday night.

Police said getting secret information they arrested Mahfuz, a class IX student of Mahipur High School, with 50 yaba tablets. According to his confession, police arrested Anwar, 40, father of the student, along with more than 790 pieces of yaba tablets, from Mahipur fish port.
