Oikyafront manifesto a mockery: AL

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Awami League joint general secretary Abdur Rahman has alleged that the Jatiya Oikyafront’s election manifesto is a mockery as it misleads the people by promising to continue of the trial process of war criminals and establishing a corruption-free society. “Oikyafront promised in its election manifesto to continue the trial process of the war criminals and establish of a corruption-free society, which is nothing but a mockery of the the nation,” he said while replying to a question at a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi office held yesterday.

Earlier yesterday, the Jatiya Oikyafront, whose main component is the BNP, unveiled its election manifesto for the 11th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.The front rolled out a 35-point election manifesto, promising the continuation of the trial process of war criminals and establishment of a corruption-free society, ensuring balance of power, making list of Liberation War martyrs and many other promises.

“They (Oikyafront leaders) said if they were voted to power, they would continue the trial process of the war criminals, but at the same time they have fielded many leaders of the Jamaat and children of war criminals to contest the upcoming polls with the ‘Sheaf of Paddy, the electoral symbol of BNP. So, their promise ridicules the process,” he said.

“Again, they said in their manifesto that they would establish a corruption-free society if they were voted to power but the country became a champion in corruption for five times during the BNP-Jamaat regime. BNP leader Tarique Rahman is now leading a fugitive life in London for his corruption. So they are misleading the people through their so-called manifesto,” he added.

Rahman said the people of the country are ready to vote for the Nouka, electoral symbol of the AL, in the upcoming polls in a bid to elect Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina again to continues the development activities.

So, the BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront are hatching conspiracy to foil the polls, he added.

He also urged people to remain alert against all types of conspiracies.

AL joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretaries Ahmad Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and BM Mozammel Haque, deputy publicity secretary Aminul Islam Amin and AL central leader Golam Rabbani Chinu, among others, were present at the press conference.
