Archers out to improve world rankings

Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) will continue its effort in their bid to get a fare result in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This time the federation will hold Teer 10th National Archery Championship from today at  Shaheed Ahasn Ullah Master Archery Training Stadium.

The BAF are moving towards its goal step by step as the federation will stage two more international level tournament in the 2018-19 year. The BAF will stage the 3rd World Ranking International Tournament in Dhaka from February 22 to 27 under the banner of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation.

BAF General Secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal stated this at a press conference at the BOA auditorium in the capital yesterday.

He said already 27 countries from five continents have confirmed their participation in the six day tournament. Chapal said the BAF is expecting more entries from different countries with the last date of registering names will close on December 30.

the BAF general secretary is hopeful about organizing this massive sport event successful with the patronisation of City Group which signed a five-year deal with the federation  to develop the game at domestic and international level. City Group has named the five year project as Teer Go for Gold.

Rubayet Ahmed, deputy brand manager of City Group, said his organization has a plan to hold three more competition including two international meets within 2018-19 year. “Apart from this competitions, we will also look after the training of Bangladesh national and youth archers. We will bear all type of expenses for the development of the game. We hope that in near future our archers would improve their rankings and able to reach ultimate target of participating the Tokyo Olympics in 2020,” said Ahmed.

BAF secretary while giving an account of the upcoming national championship he said that about 50 affiliated units of the federation  will take part in the championship.

Replying to a question he said that Dhaka Army Archery Club, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP), Bangladesh Ansar and Teerandaj Sangsad will fight for earning the top spot in the medals table. He also predicted that Quantum Sportium may also give trouble to above four teams. The final of all ten events will take place on the concluding day.
