Youth’s throat-silt body recovered

UNB, Sirajganj

Police recovered the throat-silt body of an unidentified young man from Bhennagachhi village in Shahjadpur upazila yesterday morning. Khawaja Golam Kibria, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station, said locals spotted the body in a field in the morning and informed police. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital, said the OC.

74 held in special drives

UNB, Satkhira

Police in special drives arrested 74 people, who are accused in different cases, from eight upazilas of the district from Friday evening to Saturday morning. Of them, 19 were arrested from Sadar upazila, 24 from Kolaroa upazila while the others from Kaliganj,Ahsashuni,Patkelghata, Debhata, Shamnagar and Tala upazilas, said Azam Khan, Inspector of Special Branch of Satkhira district. Two cases were filed against them.

Man held with foreign currencies

UNB, Benapole

A man was arrested at Benapole land port border with a huge amount of foreign currencies yesterday. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers seized $ 20,200, Indian and Bangladeshi currencies and seven expensive mobile phones from Mohammad Haque, 50, a resident of Gazipur. He was coming back from India and had cleared the Bangladesh customs. Haque was at the passenger terminal when he was caught. "We conducted a drive after being tipped off about a man carrying a large amount of foreign currencies," said Lt Col Ariful Islam, the commander of BGB-49. Haque was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed over the recovery of the foreign currencies.
