Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday said there is no alternative to the symbol ‘boat’ for building a developed Bangladesh free from hunger, discrimination and poverty. “In last five years, we implemented many development projects after examining local problems of all 15 unions in Pirganj upazila of the district and taking realistic steps accordingly,” she said. Dr Shirin said this while making mass public contacts and addressing a number of streets corner rallies as a part of her election campaign at different places of Pirganj municipality and Baro Alampur union in her Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency.
Among the notable development projects already implemented in Pirganj upazila, she cited constructions of the eye-catching Central Shaheed Minar, Muktijoddha Complex Bhaban, Union Parishad Complexes in Kabilpur, Mithipur and Bara Alampur unions, Pirganj Upazila parisahd Complex, infrastructures of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN), establishing Dr MA Wazed Textile Engineering College and Marine Academy Construction.
“About 80 per cent of total developmental works required for Pirganj upazila have already been completed and a revolution has been made in the communication systems through constructions of roads, bridges, culverts and other rural infrastructures,” she said.
