BNP secretary general and spokesperson of the Jatiyo Oikyafront Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday urged voters to cast votes in favour of ‘sheaf of paddy’, the BNP’s electoral symbol, to restore democracy. He was addressing a roadside rally at Madrashapara in Salondar Union under the Sadar upazila yesterday morning. “If people want to restore democracy, they have to cast votes for ‘sheaf of paddy’. There won’t be any accountability without a change in state power. Autonomy will continue if the current ruling party is not dislodged,” the BNP leader said.
He added: “We’ve formed Jatiyo Oikyafront with Dr Kamal Hossain for the sake of democracy. People have to be united to ensure a free and fair election and restore their democratic rights.” The BNP leader also pledged that all educated unemployed youths would be brought under unemployment allowance net until they secured a job, if their party regained power.
Thakurgaon district BNP president Toymur Rahman, vice-president Md. Alom, joint secretary Poygam Ali and local BNP leaders were present on the occasion.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir continued his campaign in Chedangi, Battoli areas of Salondar Union under Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon.
