Countrymen will guard polling centres: Nasim

BSS, Dhaka

Awami League Presidium Member and central 14-party spokesperson Mohammad Nasim yesterday said there is no need for any political party to guard the polling centres as the countrymen will do the job.  “The December 30 polls day will be the day of victory for the pro-liberation forces. The pro-liberation forces could never be defeated in the month of victory. You have no need to guard the polling centres. The people of the country will guard the centers,” he said at a press conference at AL central office in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.

Earlier, Nasim, also the health and family welfare minister, presided over a meeting of the14-party alliance centering the upcoming polls.

Regarding a comment of BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on guarding the polling centres, Nasim said, “We don’t understand why BNP is threatening without any reason. There is no need to guard the polling stations.”

About an allegation of Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain on level playing field, the AL senior leader said it is their habit to make allegations without any reason. The polls environment across the country is peacefully, he added.

Urging the new voters to cast their first votes in the favour of the pro-liberation forces, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, who was also present on the occasion, said there is no alternative to the victory of the pro-liberation forces.

“I urge all of you not to cast yours votes for any anti-liberation candidates,” he added.

Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, JSD General Secretary Shirin Akther, NAP leader Ismail Hossain and BSD leader Rezaur Rashid, among others, were present in the press conference.
