Even though some changes will be made in Bangladesh squad owing to injuries of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, Minhajul Abedin Nannu believes that the squad they have prepared for the ensuing home series against Zimbabwe will fare well at home yard.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel chairman said that they are not taking Zimbabwe lightly as the points of the matches along with rankings will be factor and important for them.

“Already we’ve ready a 15-man ODI squad for Zimbabwe series. We’ve sent it to president for the final approval. Overall we’ve tried to prepare a best possible side for the series because every series is important for us,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

“There is no chance to take Zimbabwe lightly. In that sense, our best team will play against Zimbabwe as the points of the matches of the series along with rankings are important and big matter for us,” Nannu told media

“We want to see the best performance from our side. For this we want our best possible side play against the visiting side,” he added.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had a primary plan to name a preliminary squad for the ensuing home series against Zimbabwe. But this time the board did not do it because of the ongoing first class cricket league, National Cricket League (NCL).

The BCB decided to directly name the final squad so that the ongoing games of the NCL won’t be affected.

Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the selection panel chairman of the BCB, hinted media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday after holding a final discussion among the panel members.

BCB director and team manager Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Bangladesh one-day captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and BCB selection panel member Habibul Bashar Sumon were also present.

“As our two key players-Tamim and Shakib-are seriously injured. They are very doubtful in this series. Shakib will not be featured. But if we get Tamim in Test series, that will be the matter of our luck. These two players will not be playing that we know before. In that sense, we have prepared our team.”

“We will not get if players have injury. But we have many players in the line-up. We’re a Test playing nation. We’ve first class cricket. Our base is not like the past, it’s stronger. In general, we think the squad we have given hopefully we will do better in this series.”

“You will see the team what we have given for the series. We will, of course, try by one or more fresh players. In that sense, we have three matches in the series. All the three matches are very important for us. You all will see the squad what we have given for the series.”

“You will see the squad after being approved by the board president. So, wait a bit for it.”

The selection panel chairman said that they have plans to release 14 and 15 players after starting the one-day series though the decision is yet to finalise.

He also said that they will sit with the head coach, Steve Rhodes, when he will return Bangladesh to finalise the matter.

“As our first class match is going on, the involvement of all of our players are with all the teams. In that sense, we have given 15-man squad so that no team will victimise,” he said.

”Even we’re thinking two players keeping all the 13 players with the team while the one-day international series will start. We’ll define it by sitting when our coach will come here in Bangladesh so that our first class cricket could be moved on without any trouble. Along with that, our players could get chance to play more number of the matches that we have kept in mind,” he also said.

“We can’t tell you particularly what number of players we have dropped from our Asia Cup squad. But some changes must be done from Asia Cup squad. You will see all the squad we have kept for the series that will be our best side and will play good cricket,” he responded to a query.
